Breasts that have lost their shape and firmness due to weight loss, pregnancy or age can be restored to their original shape. The nipples are repositioned higher on the breast and excess skin is removed to eliminate sagging. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, but may require general anesthesia. Depending on the technique used, the procedure may leave permanently visible incision scars.

The augmentation surgery can achieve firmer, bigger breasts with minimal scarring. Silicone or saline-filled implants are inserted through the areola, armpits, or underneath the breasts and placed behind the pectoral muscles in order to enlarge the breasts. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, but may require general anesthesia. Implants can rupture as a result of trauma or spontaneously over time, requiring additional breast surgery.
