Typical Patient

· An area of your skin where there is a raised, unusual, pigmented, hairy, bleeding or painful lesion.

· There may be an area that is crusty, red, and does not heal and grows in size, even slowly.

· Any skin lesion that is pigmented that is Asymmetric, irregular Borders, Colored, or Diameter over 6mm" should be biopsied.

Any area where there is a scar from a biopsy that is suspicious or you just want revised.

Even if the lesion does not look suspicious and you want it removed for only cosmetic reasons.

Procedure

· A local anesthesia and surgery in the office is all that is usually ever required.

· The incision is very inconspicuous location for a variable length.

· The procedure involves either just shaving off the top or making an incision and taking out the lesion or scar. Depending on which, you may or may not have stitches at all.

· Either no dressings or a very light one is all that is used, often for just one day.

· The removed specimen may be sent to the laboratory for evaluation.

· This can be combined with other plastic surgical procedures.

Recovery

· You can go home immediately and return to full activity.

· You can shower that night as usual and even get the area and stitches wet.

· There is no pain.

· Swelling is none or very mild.

· Minimal or no bruising is the usual.

· Makeup can be applied as early as the next day.

· The stitches are removed at four to seven days.

· You will not need any time off work.

Result

· Beautiful, balanced and natural cosmetic result.

· Evaluation of the cancer risk or activity of anything removed.

· You will need to be followed and re-examined on a regular basis.
