Laser Hair Removal Information

The Aesthetic Science Institute is pleased to offer the latest technological breakthrough in laser hair removal, the Sciton Image long pulse width Nd:YAG 1064 laser. This laser system is unique as it offers sapphire tip contact cooling along with a skin sparing long pulse width. Older lasers limited us to light skinned, dark haired patients without tans but the Sciton system allows us to treat all skin types including tanned patients and all hair colors and thicknesses.
The effect of the laser is to cause energy absorption along the hair follicle while sparing the skin and surrounding tissue. As some of the hair follicles are in a “resting phase” (telogen) it often requires multiple treatments to achieve permanent hair reduction. Three treatments spaced 1-2 months apart are usually needed although more treatments are occasionally necessary
Patients are asked not to wax or pluck for several weeks prior to treatment although shaving is permitted. Areas are photographed, the hair is shaved, the areas are marked and a topical anesthetic placed. After 45 minutes, the anesthetic is removed and the laser energy is applied with a cooling hand piece. After the procedure, no dressings or other post operative care is needed. Patients may shower and apply make up as previously. There may be minor skin irritation or redness which subsides within a few hours after treatment.
